God blessed preaching is His method to reach His world. We must have the forthright declaration of authoritative, Biblical preaching. The Word of the Lord – the precious soul-saving Gospel. Christ must be preached. The Saviour of the world. As heralds for the king we have His message on our lips. We must deliver it straight and strong. A call to Biblical preaching. We need not fear to speak the truth, even though it may be viewed as negative – the unvarnished truth must be told to our generation, while we yet have time.

1 Corinthians 1:21
For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
There’s over 150 references to PREACHING in the Bible.
It’s not considered popular these days.
Preaching isn’t always user friendly… or trendy. Maybe it’s not culturally relevant anymore. I don’t care.
What matters is that GOD says… it’s…
- His METHOD
- His MESSAGE…
It has been said that “the most urgent need in the Christian Church today is true preaching; and as it is the greatest and the most urgent need in the Church, it is obviously the greatest need of the world also.” (Lloyd-Jones)
The preaching of the truth is the answer for a world in darkness, and headed for damnation…
There is a place called Hell.
The place of the damned.
This message must be delivered, as by the herald of the King, as the spokesman for the Emperor, the message that has been issued, by royal decree…
We must impart it.
We need the preaching of the Word of God…
- With authority
- With power
- With boldness
Pray for that
Come expectant for that.
Church is not like some kind of social club… It is God’s design that it be a…
- Christ-exalting assembly of God’s own dear people.
We are called to be the church…
- A people filled with hope.
- A people believing…
- A Bible filled with power
We want to be such a people who care about the truth. Who passionately believe it and passionately proclaim it.
We believe in the forthright powerful preaching of the Word of God…
We stand for…
We believe what the book says, that we as God’s people, are to be nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine… (1 Tim. 4:6)…
God hasn’t commissioned me to deliver some kind of pep talk to you, or to give to you some slick, self help motivational speech – or to tell you a whole lot of ear tickling, entertaining stories.
God hasn’t called me to dazzle you with my personal charisma, or to be some kind of stand up comedian. He has not sent me to please people.
The spotlight is not upon me.
But upon Him.
God hasn’t given me a feel-good latter day prophecy to pander to your emotions, or given me some trip to heaven to brag of, or some fanciful vision or superficial dream of man’s making to impart to you.
God hasn’t sent me here to make friends and influence people.
I’m here to tell you the truth, no matter how uncomfortable that may be. The truth hurts sometimes. Like as Paul told the Galatians…
Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?
God has sent me simply to
“PREACH THE WORD…”
As a church we believe in Biblical preaching.
We believe that we can say, not presumptuously, or of man’s invention, but authoritatively, what the Book says:
Thus saith the Lord…
We need what THE WORD says…
As Paul urged Timothy…
2 Tim 4:1-4
I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
(2) Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
(3) For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
(4) And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
There’s a lot of so-called teachers out there. And it’s causing a whole lot of confusion… That’s why we have seen numbers of people fall by the wayside as they have gotten off on tangents.
People are tuning in to a whole lot of teaching that is not under the authority of the local church and so they end up getting tossed about with every wind of doctrine.
It is the authoritative preaching of the unadulterated Word that we need.
It’s what changes us.
“The scriptures are given not to increase our knowledge, but to change our
~Dwight L. Moody
In Jonah chapter one, we see that it is The word of the LORD that came to Jonah…
It says the Word of the Lord came to Nathan.
It says the word of the Lord came to Elijah.
It says the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah.
It says the word of the Lord came to Ezekiel.
In Acts 15 it says that Paul and Barnabas preached the Word of the Lord.
We read in, Acts 13:49
And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region.
We live in a time, as foretold, when they will not endure sound doctrine… they will become intolerant of it. Why so? Because we have lost the Word of God. The more sure word has been replaced with some wishy washy paraphrase, or worse.
The church by and large has gone the way of the world, where we see…
“Tolerance” is the chief “virtue” in our world today.
A tolerance for everything BUT the Word of God.
We see this evident in laws that seem to be tolerant, of everything, BUT Christianity…
The media plays its mind games and people are captivated by its mind control and programming…
But, God is in control of history…
He has the final authority…
Our sinful planet needs…
We need to preach the Word.
In some trendy churches now they have what they call a “conversation”… That’s what the Emergents call it, I’m told. Meanwhile, sound Gospel preaching is under attack and scorned.
Another product of postmodernism and popular man-centred movements of our day is the loss of belief in the authority of the Scriptures.
The faithful preaching of the faithful word. This is what we need most of all.
This word must be proclaimed.
It’s been said:
“The preacher is called to preach the Word of God accurately and faithfully.
There are many temptations to preach other things and end up neglecting the primacy of preaching the powerful, living word of God.
Preaching the word can be unpopular in an entertainment-oriented, short attention span generation, but preaching the word is a must if we are to fulfill our calling.
The greatest power ever known is the spoken word of God. It has called worlds into being, toppled empires, healed and comforted the sick, shaken the proud and resurrected the dead.
Yet in far too many pulpits, that powerful word lies unopened, unspoken and therefore uncomprehended. The word of God preached poorly has more power than your opinions preached powerfully.”
(Frank Damzio –not necessarily endorsing the source)
What we need to hear is not someone’s “opinion” or sharing…
As a church, our desire must be, not to pick and choose… But to…
- Have the Word of God preached
- The whole counsel of God
- Sound Bible principles…
As a church we uphold this preaching.
WE PREACH THE GOSPEL.
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
We need preaching because by this Word we have salvation.
We need to preach the cross. We need to proclaim this.
This is the vital message or our generation.
This soul-saving message.
This message saves.
…it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
We must have the strong, sound preaching of the powerful, living Word of God.
God is pleased to use this means – to save the soul – and to edify the saint.
We must proclaim ‘the unsearchable riches of Christ’.
We must communicate the Word of God.
The cults are active… all around us…
Eg revivalists in Salisbury
NW Translation in Swahili.
It’s the Gospel that we need.
The Gospel Truth.
Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?
We must stand and Preach THE TRUTH…
- This Soul searching
- Old time, soul winning, uplifting, Truth.
WE NEED preachers who will… speak out…
- Make a stand
- Cry aloud and spare not
- Speak out against evil – and FOR the right.
It is critical that we
“preach the Word.”
It is the most helpful and refreshing thing for the soul…
How we need a Zeal for the truth…
Perplexing, perilous days…
Yet Christians want to play at church…
In looking for a church, people look for a place where they can be made to feel good, where they can be entertained, where they can socialise and make business contacts, and where their children can have a place to play.
The church has become “good-for-nothing”…
“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.”
Salt that has lost its savour is “good for nothing”…
Some Christians, some churches, are “good for nothing”… “Make believe” Christians… Apathy prevails…
The savour… gives salt…
- Its quality
- Its value
Salt when it is working, is valuable, as a seasoning; and, especially, as a preservative. Before fridges salt was used to preserve food…
Salt was seen as so valuable that wars were waged over it. It was even more valuable than precious metals. But when salt loses its saltiness, it is worthless; “good for nothing.”
Christ calls us to be the salt… to resist decay, to preserve the land… to be a people who love the truth…
Churches are meant to be strongholds of truth… Separated from the world, its spirit and its ways.
To carry the torch of truth…
We have lost the loyalty to the local church… The primacy of the preaching of the Word of God…
- Conviction is replaced by compromise.
- Principle has been replaced by popularity.
- Truth has been replaced with entertainment.
- Repentance has been replaced by prosperity theology.
How can we be the “salt” and “light” to a lost and dying world when we lack a basic Biblical foundation?
Old-fashioned Bible Christianity has been replaced with a faulty substitute… Emerging Church, Purpose Driven Church, Seeker-Sensitive Church, User-Friendly Church, Meta-Church…
It’s an outrage.
Some 80% of professing Christians today do not hold a Biblical worldview. They are not “salt” and “light”.
Through church history, God’s people were commonly martyred. They cared about faithfulness to the truth…
We need… Strong preaching…
- With Fervency
- With Faith
As we are SENSITIVE to the SPIRIT of GOD…
May this be our Heart cry…
To be for truth
Truth at all costs.
Our message is…
Hell’s hot, and Heaven’s sweet.
WE PREACH CHRIST.
He is the message that we preach.
Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
Bring every thought to the obedience of Christ…
And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
We are like a herald for the king. Get ready – prepare the way of the Lord… Will you be ready at His returning?
The preacher is meant to function as a herald.
A herald is a proclaimer of a message given to him by the one who he is under, a messenger sent to announce. This messenger stood before kings, military commanders, and ambassadors, conveying official messages.
In the ancient world, the herald must be a person of integrity and character, since he would faithfully make all public proclamations. The king had to trust the herald to speak truth.
Where are you…? Do you give…
Lip service – or – Obey God…
As Philip, we proclaim Jesus Christ…
Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.
As Paul, 1 Cor 1:23
But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
WE PREACH STRAIGHT…
We preach straight down the line.
We are not here to tiptoe round the tulips.
I am not here to accommodate sin or false doctrine.
I am answerable to God if I fail to warn and reprove where it is called for.
Many today no longer want the preacher to preach on that which is negative.
People want a more positive pulpit.
Don’t be so “judgmental”, they say…
Yet, without sin and judgment…
There is no grace and forgiveness.
Without hell, there is no heaven…
- No repentance, no faith.
- No wrath, no mercy.
- No cross, no crown.
- No conviction, no Holy Spirit.
- No serpent, no Paradise.
- No transgression, no Gospel.
This Bible is worthy to be believed, obeyed, and followed.
Sometimes the message will be far from positive.
The role of the preacher is to expose error and reveal sin.
We need the negatives…
As one preacher puts it, there’s…
A number of necessary negatives…
1 – BE NOT
2 Corinthians 6:14
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
Righteousness can have no fellowship with the unrighteous.
2 – TOUCH NOT
2 Corinthians 6:17
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
Blessed are the pure in heart – for they will see God (Matt 5:8).
3 – LOVE NOT
1 John 2:15
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
When the world and the things of the world occupies the time in your life that God should have, then you are missing the love of God.
4 – SET NOT
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
We are so in love with things that we don’t have time for God and the things that are above. Where is your affection?
What preoccupies us – the secular – or the sacred…?
- Our Motives?
- Our Mindset?
5 – WALK NOT
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
Some are walking in the counsel of worldly music, of soap operas, of ungodly friends…
Will you run with the sinners and sit with the scornful or do you want to listen to God?
6 – GIVE NOT
Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.
Let’s look for those that are hungry for the truth and know that this Bible and the God it represents is all that they need.
7 – ENTER NOT
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
The child of God is not to go places, do things, or place themselves in situation that temptation will come.
But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
When you place yourself in a tempting situation, you’re making provision for the flesh…
(Points from Dr. Danny Bezet; SOME NEGATIVES OF GOD’S WORD)
With our nation as far away from God as it is, we need men of God to preach.
And we must take this seriously…
These truths are eternal. They are too precious to be trifled with.
“I preached as never sure to preach again, and as a dying man to dying men.” ― Richard Baxter
God has given the command to preach the Word of God. It matters not what man thinks, but what God says.
Pray for me that the words that I speak, and those who likewise preach, will faithfully transmit God’s words unto you.
“Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD. Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.”
Human life has lost its value. Millions of babies have been aborted. We need preaching.
Lives are being destroyed by alcohol and drugs. We need preaching.
Our churches are getting colder and colder. Our preachers are getting milder and milder. We need preaching.
We need some old fashioned men of God who will declare the whole counsel of the Word of God. Men, like John the Baptist, would not be popular, but we need the message.
We must get back to the Word of God.
What this world needs to hear is good old fashioned, Bible thumping, hell fire preaching…
God has chosen the foolishness of preaching.
This world is going to hell at high speed, and it’s high time to pluck some out of the fire (Jude 23) before it’s too late.
It’s not about “sharing” your “feelings” about what “you” think! God said very clearly to…
“PREACH the word…”
Jonah had a strong message of repentance and judgment…
“Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.”
It was a very simple message. But it was God’s Word.
Hear Isaiah preaching…
“Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and show my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.”
In Acts 17:30, Paul declared in no uncertain terms that God…
“…now commandeth all men every where to repent..”
