The Hand of The Lord is With Us
A recurring theme in scripture is the Hand of the Lord. He leads us, He holds us. As the hand of a pilot He guides us. His Hand is not shortened that it cannot save. He reaches to the uttermost. His Hand speaks of revival power and blessing. In Christ He touches us and brings healing and salvation to the soul.
(Based on 283 & 242/753)
The Hand of the Lord reveals so much…
- About the Lord, and
- About His character.
And it is associated with REVIVAL…
Acts 11:20-21 Talks of believers who came to Antioch and who
(20) spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus.
(21) And THE HAND OF THE LORD WAS WITH THEM: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.
The hand of the Lord was with them.
It was so too, in the Old Testament…
In the revival of Hezekiah’s day…
2 Chronicles 30:11-15 God’s People came and
humbled themselves, and came to Jerusalem.
It says in Verse 12, that
the hand of God was to give them one heart.
They obeyed God, and in Verse 14, they destroyed the pagan altars and restored true worship.
And God wrought a wonderful work.
THE HAND OF THE LORD is a theme right through the Bible.
Let us consider some of the characteristics of the Hand of the Lord…
God’s hand does the…
(1) Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:
(2) But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
The Lord’s hand is not too short to save.
His hand is NOT SHORT.
It speaks of His power.
It can reach TO THE UTTERMOST…
- To the guttermost
- To the lowest
- Drug addict
- Child molester
To the deepest, darkest, Christless life.
Let us realise His awesome power to save.
The Psalmist cried out…
(7) Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
(8) If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
(9) If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
(10) Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
God’s hand is always there.
Reaching out and sheltering us.
Even there shall Your Hand lead me and Your right hand shall hold me.
- Leads us – Guides – Directs us
- Holds us – as our Security
The Bible speaks of the Right Hand –
As having Authority – like…
- The King’s Hand
- The Policeman’s Hand
- Our personal security guard
THE HAND OF THE LORD is as…
The hand of a guide, a pilot…
- It is a Strong Hand – He will carry us through
It is as a Teacher’s hand – it points truth out
The Hand of the Lord is…
- And Victorious…
O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.
He gives us Victory.
We should want to be in right relationship with God, as His hand can cast us into hell…
It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
His hand is glorious in Power
He wants to bring to us His gift of eternal life
He extends it to us
A life of…
The Hand of the Lord. It does the SAVING…
It’s a Hand that…
- Reaches out
- Reaches down.
The Hand of The Lord has a SAVING power
The Hand of the Lord speaks of His…
The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. 24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.
The Lord grasps us by His hand, in support and upholds us.
The hand of a person speaks to us of friendship. We extend a welcome by our hand…
God’s care upholds us.
The hand of the Lord gives support to Hurting lives…
The hand of the Lord extends care and comfort, alike to the caring touch of the father’s/mother’s hand…
- He cares
- He longs to bless
- To minister
The Hand of the Lord provides Comfort –
He can take us through…
- The darkest, toughest, loneliest of valleys
- The hardest trials/
- The tragic tragedies and difficulties of life

God’s hand does the supporting….
He Leadeth Me…
“In pastures green?
Who knoweth best,
in kindness leadeth me
In weary ways,
where heavy shadows be;
“Out of the sunshine,
warm and soft
Out of the sunshine
the darkest night.
I oft would faint
with sorrow and affright,
“Only for this;
He holds my hand;
So, whether in green
or desert land,
I may not
“And by still waters?
No, not always so;
Ofttimes the heavy
round me blow,
And o’er my soul
and billows go;
“But, when the storm
and I cry
to my soul,
‘Lo, it is I!’
“Above the tempest
hear him say,
‘Beyond this darkness
lies the perfect day,
In every path
I lead the way.’
“So, whether on
high and fair
or in sunless
The shadows lie,
He is there.
“And more than this:
where’er the pathways lead,
He gives no
But his own hand,
He leads me
I can safely go,
And in the blest
I shall know
in his wisdom,
he hath led me so.”
He leadeth me.
All too often we neglect to consider His overshadowing hand by which He is supporting, securing and sheltering us…
Through a liftetime.
My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.
Our times are in His hand – God’s in ultimate control.
God promises to uphold us with His hand.
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
The Hand of the Lord is a symbol of His power.
He gives Protection – When danger threatens
- A place of warmth/shelter, and peace
- When we carry the Heaviest burdens – our fears, our concerns; our heartaches and sorrows
- Know that Jesus has been there.
The hand speaks…
- Of Supply
- Of Provision
Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.
We can be grateful for the Hand of the Lord.
God opens His hand
and gives His good gifts to us…
That thou givest them they gather: thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good.
The Shepherd’s hand – meets our needs
He Satisfies the longing soul.
Whatever our need, Jesus can supply it.
And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.
He is our supply.
Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
He is our Source of all Real pleasures and worthy treasures.
He is our Source.
Not the world
In Him, we find…
- Our Fulfilment
- Our Purpose
Have we suffered loss – are we…
- Worried, troubled?
- In danger?
- He holds us close to His side.
His hand is supporting us, each step of life’s way.
The hand of the Lord speaks of the manifest tangible presence of God.
Do we stop and consider how His hand is at work in our lives?
1 Peter 5:6
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
He reassures us…
- He Calms our troubled heart
- And Ministers His love
- He holds us
- He embraces us.
Let us consider that His Hand is OVER US.
The hand of the Lord should prompt in us a humility.
Let us HUMBLE ourselves under His mighty Hand…
And let us consider that His Hand is UNDER US…
And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
There is Safety in His hand – and true Security.
I just love the thought of the security of being found in His hand…
A comforting thought is that, when Jesus saves, He saves to the uttermost…
Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
It is all about being in His hand.
There is a familiar modern parable that speaks of how a Master Musician’s hand can make beautiful music from a dusty old violin, and give it a quality beyond what first appears to the eye…
And this is how God’s Hand can touch our lives…
The Touch Of The Master’s Hand
‘Twas battered and scarred,
and the auctioneer
Thought it scarcely
worth his while
To waste much time
on the old violin,
But held it up
with a smile.
“What am I bidden,
good folks,” he cried,
“Who’ll start the bidding
“A dollar, a dollar.
and who’ll make it three?”
“Three dollars, once;
three dollars, twice;
Going for three…”
From the room,
a grey-haired man
and picked up the bow;
Then wiping the dust
from the old violin,
the loosened strings,
He played a melody
pure and sweet,
As a caroling angel sings.
The music ceased,
and the auctioneer,
With a voice
that was quiet and low,
Said: “What am I bid
for the old violin?”
And he held it up
with the bow.
“A thousand dollars,
and who’ll make it two?
And who’ll make it three?
Three thousand, once;
three thousand, twice,
And going and gone,”
The people cheered,
but some of them cried,
“We do not quite understand.
What changed its worth?”
Swift came the reply:
“The touch of the Master’s hand.”
And many a man
with life out of tune,
and scarred with sin,
Is auctioned cheap
to the thoughtless crowd
Much like the old violin.
A “mess of pottage,”
a glass of wine,
— and he travels on.
He is “going” once,
and “going” twice,
and almost “gone.”
But the Master comes,
and the foolish crowd
The worth of a soul
and the change
that is wrought
By the touch
of the Master’s hand.

Your life – your soul
Is so valuable
Have you experienced
the Touch of the Master’s hand?
God’s Hand is as the Hand…
- Of a Workman
- A Craftsman
- A Labourer
Hands are to do with work.
His hand is actively AT WORK upon your life…
Do not shy away from His hand, as he works on you…
- Crafting you
- Leading you
- Encouraging you.
The hand of the Lord is as… The hand…
- Of a Potter – He mould us – He made us.
- Of a King – it is an honour to hold
- Of a Friend – as a warm handshake
He is “in touch” with our hurts and needs.
Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.
Have you experienced
THE TOUCH OF THE MASTER’S HAND?
The hand of the Lord is as the hands of a Designer – Creation is the work of His hands.
If all else fails, read the instructions.
The hand of the Lord is as the hand of a Coach – He spurs us on in the Race.
He pats us on the back.
God is real.
He is not cold, distant, impersonal.
His Hand is here for us… reaching out…
Not only that, His hands tell of His…
And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.
These are… Scarred hands, bearing wounds of love.
“What are these wounds in Thine hands?”
…they pierced my hands and my feet.
He was Wounded by man…
- The only man-made thing in Heaven – are the marks on Christ’s Body.
Let us not forget the wounds He bore for us.
They are in His hands, as witness of His…
- Suffering our pain.
- Paying our penalty.
The crucified hands show for us God’s love…
- His care
- His closeness
- His compassion
- His understanding
God is not DISTANT, REMOVED, or FAR AWAY…
- He is close by
- He is near.
His Hand, the Hand of the Lord, is with us…
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
He is… here…
- Outside the church
- Trying to gain admission
Won’t you see those hands today…
- Open wide – to receive us
- Extended towards us
And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.
His hand brings…
Grasp His Hand…
He bids us come
“Whosoever will may come”
He is standing by…
- Waiting for our response
- Waiting to reach out
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Draw close to
- His hands
- His side
- His arms
Sense His hand, He is strong…
- To save
- To support
The Hand of the Lord is with us…
- The Hands that suffered for you
- He reaches out, and seeks for you.
Draw nigh to God and He will draw night to you.
In some ways also…
We are His Hand extended.
We are His Hands.
Consider His Hand
And THE HAND OF THE LORD WAS WITH THEM: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.
